Golden View PTO Executive Board Meeting Fun, Efficient & Friendly

Meeting Minutes – May 7, 2009

Present: Anastasia Halpin, Kim Jarrah, Gina VanBoxtel, Cathy Jackson, Tami Moore, Anna Dreifus. Dana Prante, Patty Nagatoshi, Laura Kistinger, Patricia Hahn, Christie Headley, Jackie Marsh, Becki Saraf, Christy Cleugh, Denise Cianca

Meeting called to order: 6:37pm

What is Our Mission? Our Mission is to raise funds to provide educational programs, develop Golden View School community building activities, and support children and teachers.

Our Three Main Purposes:

1. Educational programs
2. Golden View community building
3. Support for children and teachers

Principal’s Report – by Anna Dreifus

• While some of the principals will be moving around in OVSD, Mrs. Dreifus will remain at Golden View.
• The new preschool at Pleasant View has been approved. It will be open to the public and prices will be on par with other local preschools. It will also allow for integration with the district’s preschool special day classes.
• The district announced that 6th grade will be self contained at the middle schools next year.
• The 5th grade classes need to spend their outdoor education funds before the end of the year. Money can not be transferred to the middle schools since this program will not run next year.

President's Report

• The jog-a-thon was a huge success! Thank you Patricia Hahn and Patty Nagatoshi. We’ve already raised 50% more than last year and still counting!
• We still need PTO positions filled for next year, big and small.
• Open House is May 20th. OC Taco House is selling presale dinners for the event.
• Volunteer luncheon is May 27th. We look forward to celebrating with all of our marvelous volunteers.
• Board planning meeting scheduled for August 6th and first regular PTO meeting will be September 10th.

Special Events/Fundraising

• We are still receiving monies from monthly membership commitments.
• Denise Cianca will work with the 5th grade parents to decide how to spend the outdoor education money earned this year.
• We have a credit with Scholastic Books of $5,586.19 due to money raised from the book fair. A committee will decide on appropriation of these funds and will also develop and submit a SOP for placing orders with Scholastic at the August 6th meeting.
• Carnival planning is going well with most committee chair positions filled. There will be lots of new activities including princess make-overs, flowers, professional photos and much more. Some of these items will be pre-sale only, so keep your eyes out for future carnival communications.

Votes/Decisions Made:

1. Minutes were approved from April meeting
2. Treasurer’s Report approved
3. $45 payment approved for the Spelling Bee
4. $500 deposit approved for the Carl’s Jr. truck at the carnival
5. $300 deposit approved for Games 2 U at the carnival
6. $248.77 approved for Ronda Corey to reimburse aviary expenses
